Juneau First Judicial District Courts

All criminal cases filed in Juneau City and Borough go through the First Judicial District courts at the Dimond Court Building, 123 4th Street. The Superior Court handles felony matters and major criminal cases. The District Court handles misdemeanors and lower-level offenses. Both operate from the same building in downtown Juneau. As the state capital, Juneau courts handle not only local cases but also some cases that involve state government and state employees, which can give Juneau's docket a somewhat different character than other districts.

Juneau Police Department Records

The Juneau Police Department maintains police records separate from the Alaska Court System. JPD records include incident reports, arrest data, and investigation files. These are not available through CourtView and must be requested from JPD directly. The department is at 6255 Alaway Avenue, Juneau, AK 99801. Phone: (907) 586-0600. Visit the JPD website at juneau.org/police for current request forms and procedures.

JPD publishes a weekly active warrant list online. The list shows warrants issued in the past seven days and is updated on a regular schedule. It is a free public resource. If you are looking for a specific warrant, the JPD list covers recent Juneau warrants while the Alaska State Troopers database at dps.alaska.gov/ast/warrants covers warrants statewide. Both are free to search. The AST Juneau Post can be reached at (907) 465-4000 for questions about troopers-handled incidents in the Juneau area.

The Juneau Police Department website is the main resource for requesting police reports, checking the active warrant list, and accessing JPD public records for the city and borough.

DPS Criminal Records Walk-In Office

The Alaska Department of Public Safety operates a walk-in Criminal Records and Identification Bureau office in Juneau at 2760 Sherwood Lane, Suite 2A, Juneau, AK 99801. This is one of the DPS offices where in-person criminal history requests can be handled, which is an advantage Juneau residents have over people in most other parts of the state. Same-day processing may be available for walk-in requests depending on staffing and volume.

Name-based criminal history searches cost $20.00. Fingerprint-based searches are $35.00 and require an FD-258 card. Under AS 12.62.160, you have the right to request and review your own criminal history held by the state. For requests submitted online or by mail, use the DPS JustFOIA portal at dpsalaska.justfoia.com/publicportal. Responses to online and mail requests come within 10 business days under AS 40.25.100, Alaska's Public Records Act.

Note: Juneau is one of a small number of Alaska cities with a DPS walk-in location, making in-person criminal history checks more accessible here than in rural or remote boroughs.
